Ralleigh Elwood Halsey, 98, Ligonier, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his home.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1918 to John C. and Lula Mae (Gevedon) Halsey in Morgan County, Ky. He married Mary Elizabeth Simon on Feb. 24, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Ralleigh was a very active individual. He enjoyed fishing, going bowling and attending the Warsaw Pentecostal Church. Several times a day he would make his way over to the Fashion Farm restaurant in Ligonier, IN. Everyone who knew him loved him. They also knew that he was always ready to get a bite to eat. Farming was his passion and time well spent was with his family. He will be truly missed.
Ralleigh Halsey is survived by his children; Lois Sharlene (Keith) Osbun of Kendallville; Theresa Mae (Wayne) Hughes of New Haven; Michael Lee (Cyndi) Halsey of Ligonier; and Joyce Marie (Roy) Castro of Milford; daughter in law-Peg Diane Halsey of Syracuse; a sister; Margaret Justine Gaff of Green Acres, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three soon to be great-great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild.
Ralleigh is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Halsey, parents, John and Lula Halsey, siblings; Stella Mae Halsey, Dora Alice Lawson, William Fred Halsey, Kelly Vernon Halsey, Elbert Junior Halsey, Warren Preston Halsey, Delver M. Halsey, Marion Clester Halsey, Patricia Lee Macy, and Denny Morine Halsey, son; John Edgar Halsey, and grandchild, Rhonda Sue Osbun.
There will be a funeral service in Ralleigh’s honor held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, with Pastor Dan Cox officiating. Burial will take place at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.
Friends and family will gather from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 1 at the funeral home for a time of visitation. An additional hour of visitation will take place prior to the funeral service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in Ralleigh’s name may be directed to the United Pentecostal Church of Warsaw Building Fund – 825 N Harrison St., Warsaw, IN.
