Philip A. Hakey Jr., 51, Diamond Lake, passed away unexpectedly at 8:31 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born Aug. 20, 1965, the son of Philip and Lucille (Wagner) Hakey Sr. On July 2, 2009 he married Jessica Dela Cruz Abanalo in Albion; she survives.
Also surviving are his parents, Philip and Lucille Hakey of Albion; three siblings, Wesley Hakey of Kimmell; Suzanne Hakey of Albion; and Josephine Hakey of Albion; and two nephews, Matthew Hakey of Fort Wayne and Christopher Hakey of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Philip graduated from Central Noble High School in 1984 and was an extremely hard worker. He was employed at Carlex in Ligonier, IN, loved to fish, and had a hidden talent of baking special treats. When he wasn’t working you would often find him at Charger House in Ligonier enjoying a cup of sweetened tea with friends.
A funeral service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Jim Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.
Family and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday Dec. 5 and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association
