Dr. Charles Todd Jr.
Dr. Charles William (Bill) Todd Jr., a caring family man and friend, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Aug. 12, 1938, to Charles and Carol Todd and spent his youth in Ligonier.
Dr. Todd was a proud alumnus of Wawaka High School, Michigan State University and Indiana University School of Medicine.
His medical career of over 30 years as an obstetrician gynecologist was marked by significant service. Dr. Todd served as an OB/GYN at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona, where he achieved the rank of major. He also co-founded the Family Birthing Center of Riverside in California and ran an obstetrics and gynecology private practice in Riverside for over 17 years. He finished his career in 1998 as the Chairman for the Dhahran Health Center’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department in Saudi Arabia, before moving back home to Indiana.
Dr. Todd had a love for travel that took him to six continents, preferring to explore new cities on foot for as long as he could walk. Traveling fulfilled his desire to continuously learn and gain new experiences outside of his rural Midwest upbringing. It also gave him opportunities to bond with his children through solo trips with each of them. Some of his most notable travel feats include summiting Mount Kilimanjaro and venturing to Antarctica.
A devoted father, grandfather and friend to many, Dr. Todd was known for his thoughtful gestures, like remembering to call loved ones on every birthday and maintaining close friendships throughout his life. He was an active member of Wawaka High School Class of 1956, enthusiastically participating in, and then organizing, many reunions. He never missed an opportunity to reconnect and was the best at one-on-one conversations. His ability to listen and offer sage, non-judgmental advice made him a beloved confidant to many.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia Rico-Todd; children, William Todd, Marsha Todd Austen (Karl) and Christine Todd Coverstone (Curtis); grandchildren, Nicole Austen, Jack Austen and Callen Coverstone; and brother, Joseph Todd Sr. (Susan).
A true friend and mentor, Dr. Todd’s memory will be cherished by all who were blessed to know him.
A service will be held in Dr. Todd’s honor on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier. Pastor John Randolph will officiate. Family and friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
