John H. Schwartz

John H. Schwartz, 78, of Ligonier, passed away at 11:57 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 26, 1936, to Noah E. and Mary Schwartz in Adams County. On Sept. 20, 1956, he married Mariann Miller. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, after 58 years of matrimony.

He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Mr. Schwartz is survived by his seven children: Lavina (David Kent) Pearson, Palmetto, Fla.; Katherine (David) Miller, Rachel (Harvey) Yoder, both of Ligonier; Noah Schwartz, at home; Stephen Schwartz, Elkhart; Jacob (Lorene Yoder) Schwartz, Ligonier; Emanuel Schwartz, Elkhart; 20 grandchildren; 45 great- grandchildren; six siblings: Albert (Margaret) Schwartz of LaGrange, Catherine Byler of Spartensberg, PA, Emma (Ernest) Schrock, Goshen; Caroline (Noah) Byler, Middlebury; Edith (Eli) Miller, Nappanee; and Elizabeth (Larry) Miller, Topeka; brother-in-law: Mose Yoder; sisters-in-law: Lydiann Schwartz and Anna Schwartz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters; three brothers: Enos, Levi and Amos; and two sisters: Rosina and Margaret.

A visitation will be held beginning after 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, and continuing all day Sunday, Feb. 1, at his residence located at 10320 North 600W, Ligonier. A funeral service at the Merle Miller residence, located at 10318 North 600W, Ligonier, and will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, with Bishop Amos Bontrager and the home ministers officiating. Pallbearers will be Merle Miller, Lavon Miller, Jason Yoder, Darrel Yoder, Mathew Schwartz, and LaWade Schwartz. Burial will take place at Hawpatch Cemetery in Topeka. Yeager Funeral Home is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
