David H. Mehl, 89, Ligonier, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 at the Goshen Hospital.
He was born on April 4, 1927, the son of Douglas A. & Elda (Smallwood) Mehl in Carlisle, Ohio. On Jan. 12, 1952 he married Gertie Mae Lawson.
He is survived by five children: John A. (Sue) Copas of Ligonier; Kenny (Rhea) Morris of Syracuse; Jeannie Peterman of Ligonier; Ronnie (Patricia) Morris of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Phillip (Hazel) Morris of Allegan, Mich.; and; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Ritter of Ligonier; two brothers, Tom (Marcille) Mehl of Dewart Lake; and Jim (DeAnn) Mehl of Ligonier.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Gertie Mae Mehl; son, David Douglas Mehl; parents; a sister Shirley Lower; and brother, Billie Joe.
David retired from Goshen Rubber in 1986 after over 36 years of service. He was a very talented wood worker & had made many amazing pieces that his family & friends continue to enjoy. He was a member of Strong Tower Worship Center in Ligonier.
A funeral service in David’s honor will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Strong Tower Worship Center, 502 West Diamond Lake Road, Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Josh Vargas will officiate.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m.– 2 p.m.on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Strong Tower Worship Center.
Burial will take place in Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell following the funeral service.
