Sarah ‘Jane’ Becker — UPDATED

Sarah “Jane” Becker, 93, Ligonier, passed away at 3:13 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at Avalon Village in Ligonier.

She was born Oct. 11, 1922, to Louis M. and Vanessa A. (Vaughn) Schmuhl in Elkhart.

On June 12, 1943, Jane married John Peter Becker in Wawaka. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2002.

Jane had a lot of talent along with numerous skills. For 33 years she worked as a dye department manager for United Technologies – Essex Wire. Along with that she was a telephone operator and had many stories working the switch board in Elkhart. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Kendallville and made many memories with her church family. She was an avid reader and was a member of the Golden Girls Line Dancing Club. Card games, Yahtzee, jacks, pick-up-sticks and other games is how she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. One on one time was important with each family member, and that will truly be missed by all.

Surviving are her daughter, Constance “Connie” (Ray) Hicks, Fort Wayne; two sons: Russell (Patricia) Becker, Ligonier; and Daniel (Brenda) Becker of Goshen; grandchildren: Pam Hicks, Angie (Joe) Bowman, Heidi (Craig) Tornquist, Heather (Vance “Joe”) Kidwell, Jason (Vicki) Becker, Adam (Kari) Becker, Jennifer (Shad) Hartsough, Nathon (Tonya) Becker, and Melissa (James “J.D.”) McPhail; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Doris Hostetler, Naples, Fla.; Dolores Conley, Elkhart; sister-in-law, Betty Schmuhl, Elkhart; and son-in-law, Jerry Miller, Goshen.

Mrs. Becker was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Miller; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held in Mrs. Becker’s honor at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN, 46767. Pastor Percy Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
